Shona pots were made in Zimbabwe by the Shona peoples (mostly women). They are made with small tools or by hand using clay. Once the pots are shaped, they are fired in a kiln. The pots were normally used for cooking, storing and serving foods and liquids, and rituals/spiritual purposes. By using the pinching and coiling technique, the pots where shaped in a round form from the bottom up. This type of shape and form would also make it easy to balance over the head when fetching water, with the help of a coiled cloth just above the head.
